We understand that sustainable fashion is a journey, and this is just the beginning. Here are some ways that SCATHED is pursuing sustainability:

Sustainable Fabrics: Our armor against the ordinary. SCATHED uses DESSERTO Cactus leather as a vegan alternative to animal leather, made from the prickly pear cactus. It's durable, breathable, water-resistant and has a 100% recycled polyester lining. Cacti are drought-resistant and don’t require irrigation throughout the growing process, minimizing the negative impact on the planet. This innovative material is as fierce as it is sustainable, a symbol of our commitment to cruelty-free luxury. We also source sustainable materials like recycled polyester, bamboo cotton, and sustainably processed organic cotton from Brito manufacturing for each collection. Brito is not only a certified sustainable textile manufacturer, their facilities are 100% solar powered and they use recycled rain water in their manufacturing process.

100% Recycled Polyester Thread: Every stitch is a promise to the planet. SCATHED sources 100% recycled polyester sewing thread from Gutermann made from post-consumer plastic bottles. These threads spun from recycled materials ensure that even the smallest details in our designs contribute to a larger cause. 

Deadstock Fabric: SCATHED rescues forgotten fabrics, breathing new life into them; a reincarnation if you will. We search the corners of the earth to find the perfect excess inventory fabrics that will bring our small-batch collections to life. Using deadstock fabrics sourced from Aloqia adds an extra layer of exclusivity to our collections, ensuring each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. 

Upcycled Denim and Leather: In our world, nothing is lost; everything is reborn. We take the discarded and the forgotten - genuine leather and denim worn by time - and transform them into bold, beautiful statements. Inspired by the cyclical nature of life, we breathe new life into the old, crafting pieces that tell stories of resilience and rebirth. 

Buying Local: When we can’t buy sustainably made fabric, we upcycle, when we can’t upcycle, we buy deadstock, when we can’t buy deadstock, we buy local. SCATHED is passionate about supporting our local community and small businesses, which is why we choose to purchase fabrics and materials locally when sustainable options are not accessible. Not only does this help us build a SCATHED family within our community, it reduces carbon emissions normally exhausted while shipping materials from overseas or out of the area. 

Small Batch Collections: We're not here for mass production. Our limited drops only occur twice per year, with only three of each design created in each size. This ensures that each piece is as unique as the rebel wearing it, while minimizing unnecessary waste.

Quality Over Quantity: We don’t believe in excess. Slow fashion manufacturing practices ensure that our designs are assembled with intention and the highest standards of quality. Our pieces are built to endure, both in style and in craftsmanship, to stand the trials of time.

Eco-friendly Packaging: We meticulously chose eco-friendly packaging that was both stylish and functional, in the hopes that our customers would reuse and repurpose them. Using recycled tape and avoiding plastics, we're reducing our plastic footprint, because every piece of unnecessary packaging is a casualty we can't afford. We also craft labels and tags from upcycled scraps with materials from our collection, further reducing waste and giving even the smallest new life. 

Solar Powered Atelier: When finding a local manufacturing space in our area became unlikely, instead of searching overseas, we decided to make our own in the Nevada desert powered completely by solar. This also allowed us to create a comfortable and welcoming location for our sewists to craft SCATHED’s collection.

Ethical Manufacturing: SCATHED views each team member as family, and we strive to make our company a positive and safe working environment. We also make sure that each employee is getting paid above minimum wage, as we feel each person should be fairly compensated for their craft.

1% for the Planet: SCATHED is a proud member of 1% for the Planet, pledging 1% of our sales to environmental causes. We believe in giving back to the Earth that inspires our designs. Our rebellion is not just about reducing harm; it's about creating positive change.
